Visiting San Francisco?

I have a friend who is making plans to visit my wonderful city. I thought my email was too good to keep private—wanted to share it with y’all:)

First of all, this is a local website that we all use to find good restaurants, hidden activities, etc:
Some things I would do/explore are:
1.) Fisherman’s wharf, Ghirardelli (if you go into the shop/cafe, they’ll give you a free chocolate!)
2.) Boudin Bakery is the birthplace of sourdough. Instead of eating there, go upstairs and do the $2 tour. It actually gives you a really succinct and perfect history of SF. It’s my favorite “museum” of the city!
2.) Walk up Lombard St. (the famous winding road)
3.) Take a cable car ride (you can even pick up at Union Square!). It’s about $6 for adults, not sure about kids.
4.) Walk through the farmers market in the Ferry Building on the weekends.
5.) Tacos in the Mission (a neighborhood known for its hipster crowd and good Mexican food!)
6.) A walk up Coit Tower (it overlooks Sausalito and the bay!). Walking up the hill to the tower is the fun part. If you want to actually go up the tower, I think it’s a bit expensive (~$10/person), so I’ve never gone:)
7.) Ride bikes or check out the house boats in Sausalito, and then go to the Marine Mammal Center on the way home!
8.) Golden Gate Park! It’s our SF pride and joy. There are so many wonderful parts about it: there’s a carousel, Japanese tea gardens and several great museums with ice cream carts near them.
To everyone else, consider this your open invitation to come visit!

If you follow me in any type of digital/social/analog capacity, you may have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet lately.
No, I did not win an exclusive 5-day cruise with the Obamas.
What has happened has been arguably better. In the past week, major life transition has come my way: Beth and I moved into a new apartment (more on that next week), and more importantly, I started on a new team!
I saved the news until today for a special reason. Exactly one year ago at this hour I was moving my 5 pieces of luggage into our beloved aha airstream and getting ready to re-embark on another grand adventure. One year ago. Twelve months.

Yet I feel 700 days older and wiser than last year. I’m more laser-focused on my direction in life. As a leader, I’ve learned how to roll with the punches (and when to punch). And city life has hardened me ever so slightly; any lingering fears of conflict are pretty much gone.
The past two years were a wonderful season in my life, working alongside some of my favorite people. I am a product of working with Brittany and Andy; of working with Jon and Todd; Meg and B.; Lauren and Len; of working with Gary, Dave, Kait, Nat and Ben.

But what’s next?
In a crazy whirlwind of events, I have embarked on a new and exciting adventure at Not For Sale! Not For Sale works to end modern-day slavery through work on the ground, work in supply chains, and through upcoming developments. I’m excited and honored to play a part. Starting Monday, I began weaving into the wonderful NFS tapestry as their marketing and communications director. I feel so blessed to spin my creative wheels towards something I care so vehemently about.

I will share more next week (once I’m more settled into the new apartment and have steady wi-fi). Right now I’m averaging ~4 cups of coffee a day. But I will say this: Though sleepless and still transitioning from my beloved work with SeeSparkGo and Brian Solis, I am supremely happy:)
And no amount of Philz or Sightglass coffee could make that happen.

THIS WEEK’S INSTALLMENT OF DAD’S MUSIC:
I will never be able to explain this, but The Commodores’ crooning on Brick House reminds me of my dad. My earliest memory with him was in the 90s on the way home to our condo in Fairfax. Elizabeth and I were sitting in the front row of the old yellow Mercedes. At some point he realized we had never heard Brick House.
“Really? Brick House? You’ve never heard it?!” Speaking to us as if we were adults that hadn’t properly entered the 90’s. No, we hadn’t heard it. Barney didn’t sing motown. So he called into the radio and we sat in front of the condo, with the car running, for what only felt like 30 minutes until the song came on.
“And here folks, dedicated to his two daughters Jessica and Elizabeth, is Dave’s request for Brick House. To all of our listeners, have yourselves a lovely night.”

It’s really beautiful outside. Like so beautiful that if San Francisco is like this more often it will become really expensive to live here.

From Alexia Tsotsis, reporting on Quora’s new valuation. Ha.

Luckily for us, that day was spent outside picnicking.

Things have been pretty crazy around here lately and I needed the planned window of relaxation. This was near-perfect.

From the event invite: “We’ll be lounging in the park sipping sweet tea and enjoying the slow pace of life pass us by (front porch rocking chairs not included).”

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

Pardon the bluntness: I believe in a living God.

Why am I coming out and saying that? I’ve been thinking a lot about this sweet little girl today. Daisy, daughter to our Pastor Britt Merrick, has been diagnosed with cancer twice before the age of 7. And yesterday was number 3.

Luke 18:17 says: “Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Message translation)

I think this video shows us just what that means. Here’s Daisy singing on her way to the hospital this morning. Just LOOKat that faith! Here I am, feeling overwhelmed by the meager details of my week. But on this day, Good Friday, she reminded me that the lasting power of schedules, deadlines and cancer all crumbled two thousand years ago. They lost their power when Jesus said “it is finished.” John 19:30

So thank you, Daisy. Thank you for reminding me of the everlasting hope we have. You’re right—that hope is greater than our present circumstances.

We’re all praying for you!

Not sure how long it will last, but this post is the beginning of a weekly music series.
Maybe I was brainwashed, but my dad’s favorite songs have a soft place in my heart.
Starting with this one:

Johnny Nash and I Can See Clearly Now.
What songs remind you of your dad?
